Ellie Schmittinger began developing senior programs in 1979 when the Florence County, Wisconsin Board of Supervisors promoted her to the position Florence County Aging Director.  Prior to the promotion she served as an income maintenance worker in the Social Services Deptartment.  She served as the Director of the Florence County Aging Unit for eight years; developing senior centers, meal sites, the home delivered meal program, in-home services, elder abuse reporting and specialized transportation.

Ellie then moved to Austin, Texas and assumed directorship of Family Eldercare, a 15 county information and referral service for the elderly where she designed the first 24-hour hotline for seniors citizens and trained volunteer responders at Seton Hospital.  She also became the first eldercare counselor under contract with Work/Family Directions to serve employees of IBM in central Texas.

In 1987, with this experience behind her, she moved to Atlanta, GA and began ELDERCARE SYSTEMS, INC. in Tucker, GA.  Eldercare gained its reputation opening the state’s first private adult daycare center and licensed homecare agency.  The adult daycare was closed in 2003 when they opened the 50&Better Center..

Eldercare provides assistance to people who wish to remain in their own homes.  Services include companion caregivers, drivers, certified nursing assistants, and hospital sitters.  Eldercare also provides emergency response systems and sponsors of the 50&Better Center which is home to member groups or individuals for social and business purposes.  The center has a large community room for seminars, programs and presentations.  It also has a kitchen, dining area, exercise room, conference room, and computer lounge.  Copying, faxing and Notary services are also available.
