24 Hour Care provided with Hourly or Live-In Caregivers

When a person is no longer able to safely live at home alone, 24-hour care is the answer.  Care can be provided around the clock with various shifts (most commonly, 12 hour shifts).  24-hour care provided hourly generally requires 4 or 5 different caregivers be assigned.   24-hour care provided on a live-in basis requires 2 live-in caregivers who alternate every 3 or 4 days.  

The decision to provide care on an hourly or live-in basis depends on the particular situation.  Live-in caregivers sleep at night and therefore live-in care is not appropriate for a person who requires constant attention. 

CNA Live-In or In-Home Care Assignment Process

After an initial phone interview, a home visit is scheduled when the entire family can come together to discuss their concerns and help plan a care-giving strategy.  The Eldercare home health professional, trained to help, will listen carefully to all the issues and explain the various care giving options available.  If 24-hour care is required, Eldercare will determine eligibility for hourly or live-in care at this time.  Then, Eldercare placement personnel will match the home health and personal needs of the family with the most appropriate skills, experience and personality of their home health workers.
